Disable Google Fonts

Disable Google Fonts is a WordPress plugin (download) that stops loading of Open Sans and other fonts used by WordPress and bundled themes (Twenty Twelve, Twenty Thirteen, Twenty Fourteen) from Google Fonts.

There are a couple of reasons why you don’t want to load fonts from Google’s servers:

  • privacy and security (Google knows about each page view)
  • local development or production (no or limited Internet access)
  • availability of Google’s servers (some countries block access to Google)
  • language support (these fonts have limited characters support)
  • performance (Google’s servers are hit on each page view)

This plugin is a very lightweight, it has no settings, just activate it and it works immediately.

Disable Google Fonts is released under the terms of GNU General Public License. It is completely free so if you find it useful you can give something back to author. Your help could be done by giving donation, sending pull request on GitHub, sending bugs and suggestions, promoting plugin in blogs, forums, social networks, and other websites.

  1. Thanks for making this! I have a slow, frequently saturated connection and the upgrade from 3.7 to 3.8 introduced a delayed draw of fonts in the admin panel of every site I’ve upgraded. Your plugin resolved this issue quickly and cleanly! :)

  3. Thanks for your plugin, but in WP 4.5.3 not works?!?

I’ve enabled this plugin, how do i verify that its actually working?
Admin still shows Open Sans fonts, is it suppose to change or what else can i do to verify this actually works.

In the WP back end, the font “Open Sans” and there google-api load links, are until exists after the plugin activation!

    Thanks for your quickly answer!

    1. Mike, it works for default, clean WP install that doesn’t have any plugin and theme other than Twenty * theme, and for plugins and themes that doesn’t add any new font other than default one. This is stated in plugin description.
